Camp I Camp II
May 24, 2010 July 5, 2010
Camp Awareness is...

...more than a training ground for the arts; it is a safe and nurturing environment where community is emphasized, friendship valued and personal growth celebrated.

...the ideal place for children to learn about the arts and develop creative skills, as they discover more about themselves and their world.

Camp Awareness is a collaborative effort with Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis, founded to help children 10-13 years old expand their cultural boundaries and outlook.

There are 2 camp sessions. Session I is June 1 - 26. Session II is July 6 - 31st. The camp repeats itself in the 2nd session.

Camp Awareness' is designed for a full day art experience. No previous art experience is required. Each session is 4 weeks, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a supervised ½ -hour lunch period. Please send a sack lunch with your child each day. Your child will enjoy a month of special art activities and high-quality, hands-on workshops including:

  • Jazz - the history and musicians
  • Ballet -  method and performance
  • Sushi -  how to roll it and samplings
  • Jewelry making with a keepsake
  • Creative writing - the art of poetry and short stories
  • Opera - origins and performance
  • Bookmaking with a keepsake
  • Theatre - playwriting, performance, and production
  • ...and others

On the last Friday of each Camp Awareness session, we stage a performance, in which your child will showcase his/her creativity and imagination.

Camp Awareness' primary objectives are to teach each child:

  • Teamwork
  • Civic service
  • Cultural values
  • The importance of culture
